Pu'u O Mahuka Heiau State Historic Site Description

Located on Oahu’s North Shore, Puʻu O Mahuka Heiau is the largest heiau (religious site) on the island. Situated within the 4 acre Puʻu O Mahuka Heiau State Historic Site park, this was more than a religious site. From this vantage point, the northern coast of Oahu could be monitored, and fire signals from the Wailua Complex of Heiaus on Kauaʻi could be seen. The site was named a National Historic Landmark in 1962 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.
