Lake Thunderbird State Park offers a variety of water activities and recreation. The park features two marinas (Calypso Cove Marina and Little River Marina), nine boat ramps and two swim beaches. Accommodations include over 200 RV sites with 30 full hookup sites, restroom facilities and primitive campsites. Lake Thunderbird State Park also features playgrounds, picnic tables and an archery range. A total of ten picnic shelters for groups and eight family shelters, as well as tent and RV campgrounds, can be reserved online.

Both the Lake Thunderbird State Park Discovery Cove Nature Center and equestrian trails are located in the Clear Bay area. The trails, which are open Wednesday through Sunday, cover four miles and feature 12 obstacles. Negative Coggins papers are required, and no on-site stables are available. An array of hiking, mountain biking and nature trails are also available in Lake Thunderbird State Park. Deer archery and waterfowl hunting are available in designated areas during the applicable seasons.

***UPDATE*** Winterization Closures -  North Sentinel Campground is closed to camping with winterized restrooms from 11/1/20 - 4/15/21. The following campgrounds are closed, gated and winterized from 11/1/20 - 4/15/21, Little Sandy tent area, Post Oak RV area, Rose Rock RV area, Critter Alley tent area and Clear Bay Point tent area. 

The following campgrounds and bathrooms are open: Northside -  Hog Creek tent and RV areas, Hickory Hill RV area, Little Sandy 30 and 50-amp RV area. Southside - Turkey Pass RV area. Eastside - Little Axe Campground.  

Lake Thunderbird State Park

Red Rock Canyon is a beautiful example of nature's artwork in Oklahoma. Wind, water and natural forces have shaped deposits from the Permian geological period Into the natural sculpture you see today. Before the mid-1800s, Plains Indians used the canyon as a winter camp. Game was abundant, the water was pure and clean and it was an escape from the cold prairie winds, just as it is today.

The canyon became a landmark on the California Road. During the 1849 California Gold Rush, the westward leading road was a haven for weary travelers. It provided fresh water, grazing for livestock and a place to rest and repair their wagons.

In 1956, the City of Hinton, Hinton Kiwanis Club, and one other individual donated the land, known as Kiwanis Canyon Park to the state. The park was renamed Red Rock Canyon State Park. The 310 acres of steep, rugged cliffs and canyons make the park a favorite spot for camping and hiking.

As of November 1st, 2018 the Red Rock Canyon State Park was no longer operated by the State of Oklahoma.  However, the park is now privately operated with a desire to see this beautiful park continue to thrive and reach more visitors to showcase the beauty of Red Rock Canyon.

The canyon floor is home to a rich ecosystem that includes many varieties of trees, birds and animal life. Nature puts on a spectacular fall foliage show from mid-October to mid-November but every season is special at Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park.

Red Rock Canyon State Park

Located in southwest Oklahoma near Fort Cobb, Fort Cobb State Park offers visitors a wide variety of activities and attractions.

The park borders Fort Cobb Lake, a large lake with 4,000 surface acres for swimming, fishing, boating and water sports. Sunset Cove Marina offers boat and boating equipment rentals, boat slip rentals, a convenience store, fuel and a restaurant. Get on the water at multiple boat ramps throughout the park and be sure to load up on bait, tackle and essentials at the Fort Cobb Lake Store on the west side of the lake. The lake features a variety of fish, including crappie, catfish, walleye, saugeye, largemouth and white bass. 

The on-site Fort Cobb State Park Golf Course gives visitors a chance to play a round on a course with beautiful views of Fort Cobb Lake. This 18-hole, par 70 course offers bent grass greens, Bermuda grass tees and fairways, a wide open front nine, challenging back nine, well-placed sand bunkers and lake views. Facilities include a putting green, driving range and pro shop with club and cart rentals.

Fort Cobb State Park has 34 full-hookup RV sites and five cabins available for online reservations. Three of the cabins can sleep up to 6 people, while the two smaller cabins can sleep 4. Pets are allowed in select units for a small nightly fee. Primitive tent campsites are also available and must be reserved online. In addition to picnic pavilions, playgrounds and comfort stations, the park also features an enclosed shelter and community building, perfect for get-togethers, family reunions and intimate weddings. 

***NOTICE***  Winterization Update - Black Jack Cove and Deer Run Campgrounds will be closed and gated with winterized bathrooms from 9/28/20 - 4/1/21 (pending weather). One restroom will remain open in Whites Catfish Cove Campground. Caddo Hill and Cove Road tent camping sites will remain open, but the bathroom will be closed and winterized from when the weather turns cold until reopening 4/1/21. Eagles Nest and Sunset Cove Campgrounds and comfort stations will remain open. 

Fort Cobb State Park

This 18-hole, par 70 course offers bent grass greens, Bermuda grass tees and fairways, a wide open front nine, challenging back nine, well-placed sand bunkers and lake views. Facilities include a putting green, driving range and pro shop with club and cart rentals, snacks and drinks.  Book a tee time online with the booking link provided.

Recreation and RV camping are available at nearby Fort Cobb State Park. Senior discount is offered Monday through Thursday. Junior rates are available daily. Private or group lessons are available. Golf Digest has included Fort Cobb Golf Course in their "Places to Play in Oklahoma" list with three stars for three years in a row.

Fort Cobb State Park Golf Course

Lake Murray State Park is Oklahoma's first and largest state park consisting of 12,500 acres of forested, rolling hills around beautiful Lake Murray. The park's diverse terrain, exceptional trails and historic sites make Lake Murray State Park a favorite destination among outdoor, water sport and ATV riding enthusiasts. 

Staying at the park is easy with your choice between RV and tent campgrounds, 56 cabins dotted throughout beautiful Lake Murray State Park and a modern lodge. Make your online reservation for an RV or tent site. Some RV sites feature full hookups, with a variety of pull-through sites, and bath and shower houses. Six campgrounds are open 24 hours a day, and Elephant Rock, Cedar Cove and Tipps Point are gated. Other campgrounds include Duke's Forest, ATV campground, Martin's Landing, Rock Tower, Marietta Landing and Buzzard's Roost. Three seasonal group camps are also located within the park.

For a more secluded experience, book one of the park's 56 cabins, many of which are historic structures built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. These state park cabins feature everything from cozy cottages for two up to large family-size cabins. For a small fee, pets are allowed in select cabins. For more luxurious accommodations, Lake Murray Lodge features 32 rooms and all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. Choose from rooms with one king-size with sofa sleeper or two queen-size beds all with stunning views of the lake. There is an elevator in the main lodge to accommodate guests with special needs. Lodge guests can also have hours of fun at the outdoor pool and splash pad area. Lake Murray Lodge offers a total of seven meeting areas, from the 4,168 sq. ft. Bald Eagle Ballroom to smaller board rooms. Banquet catering and audio/visual equipment are also available. No pets are allowed in the lodge.

When it’s time to get outside, fishing, boating and a variety of water sports are enjoyed on the 5,728 surface acres of Lake Murray. Outdoor activities include golf, picnicking, camping, trail riding, hayrides, hiking, swimming, miniature golf and paddle boating. Sports facilities include a golf course, tennis courts, and softball and baseball fields. With nearly 1,000 acres of trails for ATVs, motorcycles and dirt bikes, thrill-seekers have plenty of terrain to adventure. Helmets are required for those under 18, and riding double is only permitted when the ATV is manufactured for two people. A small ATV riding fee (per passenger) does apply.

The park also has an extensive trail system for hikers and mountain bikers. New Deal, Anadarche, Buckhorn and a new system from the park office to Tucker Tower all combine for more than 30 miles of scenic trails offering a wide variety of hiking and biking experiences. These trails range from fairly simple and flat to moderately difficult with good hills and even some interactions with rock and bluff environments.

Golfers of all ages and abilities enjoy the well-manicured and challenging Lake Murray State Park Golf Course. This 18-hole golf course features towering oak trees, tree-lined fairways, strategically placed water hazards and a breathtaking natural waterfall. Lake Murray State Park & Lodge

Located at Lake Murray State Park, this 18-hole golf course features towering oak trees, tree-lined fairways, strategically placed water hazards and a breathtaking natural waterfall. The state-of-the-art pro shop at Lake Murray State Park Golf Course is a showcase for this picturesque course, boasting a natural stone and wood architectural style with features incorporated to blend in with the existing historic CCC structures located throughout the park. Large windows around the building offer natural light while allowing visitors a first glimpse of the course. The outside patio on the west-facing side is open for visitors to relax and enjoy the beauty of the course. Lake Murray Lodge and cabins are nearby, and an airstrip is located adjacent to the golf course.

Lake Murray State Park Golf Course

The Roman Nose State Park Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 70 course that offers sloping bent grass greens, Bermuda grass tees and fairways, natural hazards, lake views, canyon walls and mesas. Completed in 1959, this course was designed by Floyd Farley and Tripp Davis with no water hazards or sand traps. Facilities include a putting green and pro shop with cart and club rentals, snacks and drinks. Book a tee time online with the booking link provided. Cabins, lodging and other recreational opportunities are available within Roman Nose State Park.
