Visitors can tour the site's three historic buildings, view exhibits about tourism and enjoy the natural landscape of the Irish Hills.

In the 1840s, Sylvester Walker's farmhouse tavern at Cambridge Junction was a favorite rest stop for travelers heading west on the Old Chicago Road. Today, the tavern is part of an 80-acre state park. Visitors can tour the site's three historic buildings, view exhibits about tourism and enjoy the natural landscape of the Irish Hills.

It's open May through October (view season dates and hours), and is home to the Walker Tavern Historic Site, a reconstructed 1840s barn, an open-air farmer's market, vintage baseball games, concerts and more. In addition, crafts and activities (ie. candle making, tin punch and high tea) are offered in the park periodically. Guided interpretive tours are available.

The Walker Tavern Farmers Market takes places every Sunday from Memorial Day to mid-October.

Don't miss out on other nearby experiences - all in the Irish Hills! All within five miles, there are two other Michigan state parks that offer a very different experience. Hayes State Park offers camping, a swimming beach, a recreational lake, concessions, trails and much more. Watkins Lake State Park and County Preserve is known for its quiet setting, wildlife viewing and its 5-mile trail. In addition, Lake Hudson Recreation Area is located just 25 miles away and is home to a designated dark sky preserve, a campground, a swimming beach and more.

Cambridge Junction Historic State Park

On February 1, 2020, Governor Cuomo renamed the park in honor of Marsha P Johnson, a transgender woman of color who was a pioneer of the LGBTQ civil rights movement and a prominent figure in the Stonewall Uprising.

Marsha P. Johnson State Park is a seven-acre waterfront park located along the East River in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. It offers visitors a stunning view of the Manhattan skyline, a delightful play area, and the green space provides many opportunities for recreation and relaxation. As the site of a 19th century shipping dock, visitors to East River may also discover unique historical remnants like old cobblestone streets and railroad tracks embedded in concrete. Historic interpretive signs are provided for your convenience. The park preserves and protects the many natural and historical resources along this beautiful city waterfront. The park is free and open to the public.

In addition to the great views of the East River and Manhattan, the park offers native meadow plantings among the historic rail yard remnants; passive recreation; picnicking and barbecues.
