Fort Stevenson State Park is nestled in the bluffs along the north shore of Lake Sakakawea. With miles of trails, a wide variety of rental equipment, breath-taking views, and year-round special events, there is always something fun to do. 

Known as the “Walleye Capital” of North Dakota, Fort Stevenson is a preferred spot for sportsmen to experience a great day on the lake. Boaters will find excellent facilities, including two marinas with boat ramp access, boat rentals, and fish cleaning facilities. 

The park is named after a late 1800’s fort that served as a supply depot for other military posts in the Dakota Territory. Park visitors can learn about the military past by visiting the park museum or by attending the Frontier Military Days event in June.

Lake Sakakawea’s shoreline meanders more than 1,300 miles and covers two time zones. More than 175 miles long, Lake Sakakawea winds along a distance equaling nearly one-half of the width of the Peace Garden State. Our amazing lake has something for everyone, from water sports, fishing, and hunting to biking birding and wildlife photography. The adventures are only limited to your imagination.
